"All Med Students Should Read
(White Coat Wisdom)"
White Coat Wisdom won three national honors in 2009. Judges from the 2009 Benjamin Franklin Awards rated the oral history highly, although the title did not win that competition. In an unusual move, they did provide a critique. On a ten point scale, with 10 being "excellent," here are the average judges' ratings in five key areas:
(9.5) Overall reaction: "...initial reaction to the quality of the writing, the information, and the tone..."
(9) Organization: "Is the text well organized and does it flow easily..."
(9) Interior graphics: "Illustrative material well designed and understandable."
(9.5) Interest: "Is the subject presented in an interesting, knowledgeable, and complete way?"
(9) Writing: "How well does the text follow generally accepted principles of good writing"
Specific judges' remarks:
"Great stories. A new look into the mind of doctors."
"All med students should read (White Coat Wisdom). (It) puts a human face on doctors; the drawings definitely enhance this book. The almost 600 pages...reveal great effort on the author's part."
