A belated thank you for being such an excellent guest on my radio program.  It was just fun to talk with you, and I'm sure that came across to the listeners. I loved your comment:  "If you get up and devote an hour and half a day to anything, you manage to get something done."  That quote is probably not verbatim, but it stuck with me and gave me new incentive.  With some kind of discipline and structure, projects/goals can be realized.  Of course, in your case, you're a heck of a writer, as well!

Physicians Featured in New Podcast Series
Weekly White Coat Wisdom podcast debuts June 2
www.whitecoatwisdom.com

(Madison) A weekly podcast featuring excerpts from each of the 36 Wisconsin physicians profiled in the Dr. C. Everett Koop-endorsed hardcover oral history, White Coat Wisdom, will begin June 2. Listeners can subscribe to the free feed on the podcast page of www.whitecoatwisdom.com.

“A podcast is the perfect venue for giving people a flavor of what White Coat Wisdom is about,” said the author, Stephen J. Busalacchi, a former Wisconsin Public Radio reporter. “The beauty of oral history is you get to hear exactly what somebody said and how they said it, just like in radio,” added Busalacchi, who produced the podcast series.

The first installment features Anderson Bauer, MD, a young physician at the Medical College of Wisconsin. When Busalacchi interviewed him for the book, Bauer was finishing his last year of medical school and describes what it’s like to be in the throes of medical school in the 21st Century. The Bauer segment is twelve minutes long, and covers the intensity of the training, the angst involved in doing sensitive exams and the affect on his personal life.

White Coat Wisdom, the hardcover book, will be released nationally on June 21—the 240th anniversary of North America’s first medical school graduating class. These University of Pennsylvania physicians were among the American pioneers who helped establish the medical profession we know today.

White Coat Wisdom is about the grit necessary to overcome substantial obstacles and ultimately discover true fulfillment in one’s personal and professional life. And in the process of hearing how these doctors came to be, readers learn insights about medicine that will help them better their own lives.
The fact that men die earlier than women, the misinterpretation of health risks and poor end-of-life planning are among the many medical topics discussed. All of the issues are covered within the context of each respective physician’s experiences, which are often poignant, inspirational and at times, unforgettable.

Stephen J. Busalacchi has more than 25 years of experience in medical journalism. He has reported for National Public Radio and Wisconsin Public Radio, and has received more than two dozen journalism awards, in addition to public relations awards.

“Doctors' lives are always interesting, especially when the reader is allowed behind the curtain. White Coat Wisdom is a good read for anyone, but of course, of special interest to the growing number involved in health and medicine."—C. Everett Koop, MD, U.S. Surgeon General, 1981-1989.
